Accessibility Statement
We want PetCoworking to be usable by people who navigate by keyboard, by screen reader, or with reduced or no motion — not as an afterthought, but as part of how the timer and the companion are actually built. This page describes where things stand today, honestly, including what isn't finished yet.
Reduced motion
PetCoworking reads your system's reduced-motion preference automatically, and you can also set it explicitly in Settings, independent of your operating system. When reduced motion is on:
- Every animated transition in the app is switched off through a single, global mechanism, not a scattered set of per-component checks — so a screen we add later inherits the same guarantee rather than needing to remember it.
- Your companion and the world around it still change — the light and color of the day still move as your session progresses — but through instant state changes rather than locomotion or animated motion. Reduced motion means no movement, not a frozen, uninformative screen.
- This is verified with automated end-to-end tests that assert zero locomotion actually occurs with the preference on, rather than assuming a CSS rule was enough.
Keyboard use
Interactive controls are built to support keyboard use, not just pointer use. As one concrete example: the companion picker is a proper listbox — arrow keys move between companions, Home and End jump to the first and last, and selection doesn't require a mouse. We're extending this same pattern (real ARIA roles, real keyboard handling, not a `<div onClick>`) across the rest of the app as it's built out, rather than retrofitting it at the end.
Screen readers
Interactive elements carry accessible labels (for example, the companion picker is announced by name, and each companion option is a labelled, selectable item, not a bare image). We're continuing to audit newer screens as they ship rather than treating labelling as done once and forgotten.
Color and contrast
PetCoworking ships several color themes (a light "sunroom" theme, a dark "moonlit" theme, and several accent variations), all built from the same shared design tokens rather than one-off colors per screen — so a contrast fix made once applies everywhere that token is used, instead of needing to be repeated. We test theme contrast as part of our automated checks.
What we know still needs work
This is a young, actively developed product, and we'd rather say so than imply a level of polish we haven't verified yet. In particular:
- Not every screen has had a full manual screen-reader pass yet.
- The mobile apps and the browser extension are on their own development timeline and may lag the web app's accessibility coverage at any given moment.
Tell us what doesn't work
If you hit a barrier — something reduced motion doesn't actually stop, a control that isn't reachable by keyboard, a label a screen reader isn't reading correctly — we want to know about it specifically: what you were doing, what assistive technology or browser you were using, and what you expected to happen instead. Email support@petcoworking.com with as much of that detail as you can; a specific, reproducible report is the single most useful thing you can send us.
Changes to this statement
We'll update the version and "last updated" date above whenever this statement changes, including when we close a gap listed above.
